- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined.
- Form mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let rest.
- Heat an oven-safe skillet and brown patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter until softened. Add flour and stir for 2 minutes.
- Whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Nestle patties into the gravy.
- Cover tightly and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 minutes more.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice to soak up the creamy gravy. For extra depth, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy.
