Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, diced onion, salt, and pepper until just combined.
  2. Form mixture into 6–8 oval-shaped patties and let rest.
  3. Heat an oven-safe skillet and brown patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions in butter until softened. Add flour and stir for 2 minutes.
  5. Whisk in beef broth and heavy cream until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Nestle patties into the gravy.
  7. Cover tightly and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 minutes more.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice to soak up the creamy gravy. For extra depth, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy.
