Ingredients
Method
- 1. Heat the Pan: Add a drizzle of olive oil to a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat.
- 2. Cook Vegetables: Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 3–5 minutes until tender. If using mushrooms, add them and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
- 3. Brown the Beef: Push the vegetables to the side and add the ground beef to the pan. Break apart and cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
- 4. Season: Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes to blend the flavors.
- 5. Melt the Cheese: Reduce heat to low. Place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the cheese to melt, about 2–3 minutes.
- 6. Prepare the Rolls: Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
- 7. Assemble: Spoon the cheesy beef and vegetable mixture into each roll. Optionally, toast the rolls before filling for added crunch.
- 8. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with extra cheese or fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
For a spicier version, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce. Swap provolone for mozzarella, Swiss, or white American cheese for different flavor profiles. These sandwiches also reheat well — wrap in foil and warm in the oven for 10 minutes.
