Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) Active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk, warmed
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar, packed (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup Mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 8 oz Cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons Milk (to adjust frosting consistency)

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Whisk together 2 cups flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, red food coloring, vanilla, and egg. Combine wet and dry ingredients, then gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours, until doubled in size.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Filling
Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon into a paste. Set aside chocolate chips if using.
  3. Step 3: Roll and Assemble
Punch down dough and roll into a 16×12-inch rectangle. Spread filling evenly, sprinkle chocolate chips, and roll tightly from the long side. Cut into 12 rolls and place in a greased 9×13-inch pan. Cover and rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Step 4: Bake the Rolls
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls 20–25 minutes or until puffed and golden. Do not overbake.
  5. Step 5: Make the Frosting
Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, adjusting consistency with milk as needed.
  6. Step 6: Frost and Serve
Cool rolls slightly, then spread frosting generously over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
