Ingredients
Method
- 1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
- 2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
- 3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and mix until incorporated.
- 4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 5. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix on low speed until just combined—do not overmix.
- 6. Bake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7. Cool and Serve: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Frost as desired and enjoy!
Notes
For extra flavor and tenderness, try replacing 2 tablespoons of milk with sour cream or adding a teaspoon of almond extract. This cake also works beautifully as a base for layered cakes or cupcakes!
