Ingredients

Meatloaf
  • 2 lb Ground beef
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
Cheesesteak Filling
  • 1 medium Green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small Onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
Optional Garnish
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté diced bell pepper and onion for about 5 minutes, until softened. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined—do not overmix.
  4. Press half of the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of a greased loaf pan.
  5. Layer 4 slices of provolone cheese over the meat, then spread the sautéed peppers and onions evenly on top.
  6. Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing the edges to seal and form a loaf shape.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  8. In the last 5 minutes of baking, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone cheese on top and bake until melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

For added flavor, try adding a touch of sautéed mushrooms to the filling. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or on a toasted roll for a full Philly-style experience.
