Ingredients
Method
- 1. Preheat oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- 2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- 3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk until smooth.
- 4. Combine batter: Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in diced apples and nuts (if using).
- 5. Layer and top: Pour half the batter into the loaf pan, sprinkle with half the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture, then repeat with remaining batter and topping.
- 6. Bake: Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cover with foil if the top browns too quickly.
- 7. Cool and glaze: Let cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a cooling rack. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, and drizzle over cooled bread.
- 8. Serve: Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature with coffee or tea.
Notes
For extra flavor, toss apples in a tablespoon of brown sugar and cinnamon before folding into the batter. This bread freezes beautifully—wrap tightly and store for up to 2 months.
